How to Add an Email-Only Contact

An email-only contact is a person who receives copies of the emails you choose, such as invoices or support updates, but cannot log into your account.

Before You Begin

  • You must be logged in as the account owner or a user allowed to manage contacts.

  • Have the contact's name, email address, full address, and phone number ready.

  • Decide which types of email they should receive.

Create an Email-Only Contact

  1. Log into the client area here.

  2. Click your name in the top-right corner and choose Contacts or using the link here.

  3. Make sure Add New Contact is selected.

  4. Enter the contact's first name, last name, email address, home address, city, state, postcode, and phone number. All of these fields are required.

  5. In the Email Preferences section, tick the types of emails this contact should receive:

    • General - General Announcements & Password Reminders

    • Invoice Emails - Invoices & Billing Reminders

    • Support Emails - Receive a copy of all support ticket communications created by the parent account holder

    • Product Emails - Order Details, Welcome Emails, etc...

    • Domain Emails - Renewal Notices, Registration Confirmations, etc...

  6. Click Save Changes.

Now the contact will receive copies of the email types you ticked. They don't get a password so they can't open the client area.

Troubleshooting

I get an error saying some fields were not entered.

WHMCS requires address line 1, city, state, postcode, and phone number for every contact. Fill in all required sections and save again. If the person doesn't have separate details, you can use your own address and phone number.

The contact isn't receiving emails.

Open the contact and confirm the right email types are ticked. Ask them to check their spam/junk folder, and double-check the email address for typos.

I want the contacts to also be able to log in.

You need to create a sub-user instead. See How to Create a Sub-User.

The contact needs emails from our game panel too.

The game panel doesn't have email-only contacts. Panel emails go to the panel account holder's email address only.
